Came across Bullet Age today and then found my way here. Love your art. Very clean, silhouettes read well, colors pop. Good stuff! Wanted to ask what you're using for animation.
I did work on an indie game once and they had me create each frame as a layer in Photoshop, so the devs could then plop it in Unity. Didn't seem like the most efficient way of doing it. Been dabbling with Flash and After Effects, just not sure which program I should sink more time into.
I use a combination of Spine (esotericsoftware.com/) and Photoshop. I create the art in photoshop but then the final animation in Spine. They have some great video tutorials on their site. Check them out.
Hey Derek, This is absolutely amazing. I really want to take my art in this direction so I would LOVE it if you were to share more of this process. I haven't forgotten about the interview that I want to send your way either I'll try to organize that this week if you're still keen. Would really like to show some of your process on my website and how people get into what you're doing.
I've been playing around tonight trying to recreate this tonight to some degree Derek. In terms of your lines are you hand drawing all of them or do you go point to point with the brush or line tool to make this? Are your colors on top of the lines to make the lines disconnected or do you just color in parts of the lines after you're done?
For the line art a hold shift at times for some of the straight lines but I don't do that for all of the lines. I alternate to keep it feeling loose but still having some control. The lines are on top and all one color.
